***UPDATE: The land that Piʻiholo Zipline was running on was sold in mid-2021 and the new owners will not be continuing the operation of this zipline. See recommendations for our favorite ziplines below.***
When it comes to business evolution on Maui, talk to Peter Baldwin, 5th generation Mauian and owner of Piiholo Ranch. After years of offering horseback riding tours and running a successful cattle ranch, Peter decided, with the help of his three sons, to open Piiholo Ranch Zipline in December 2008.
Now home to the longest side-by-side zipline in the state of Hawaii (at just over half a mile long), Piiholo is an excellent place to enjoy the views of Upcountry Maui in a new way. Located a mile above Makawao, this is a convenient and easy location for a morning or midday volcano adventure.
Tour options include a 4 or 5 line zipline tour through native plant life and eucalyptus forests, 3 line zipline canopy tour with an aerial bridge, tree platforms and multiple tree houses and even an all-day zipline and waterfall hike combination tour.
One of the most unique things about Piiholo is the fact that you can zip two at a time, allowing you to “race” your friends and family members throughout the tour. Check out the views of Upcountry as you zip over gulches and lush ranchland, all with panoramic views of the mountains and ocean.
Our tour guides – Marisa, Jacob and Marcus – were all extremely courteous and friendly, and we would definitely recommend ziplining with Piiholo for a fun day adventure for before heading out to explore more gems of Upcountry Maui.
For those interested in tagging along but not necessarily zipping along, they offer a special Walk Along Tour for only $25.
