Maui’s coolest little town has some big changes. If you haven’t made your way to Paia recently, you might be surprised to find a few new additions (and subtractions) to this north shore favorite.
This is accurate as of July 2014.
What’s New in Paia Town
Restaurants
What’s New: Construction recently started on the lot between Milagros and Alice in Hulaland, which is expected to be a new sushi restaurant. Although not brand new, we are happy to add Dazoo and Rock & Brews to our list of Paia restaurant staples. Don’t miss the bibimbap and craft cocktails at Dazoo or the burgers at Rock & Brews, co-owned by KISS members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Yum!
What’s Out: Nellie’s sandwich shop is currently closed for renovation and Paia Bay Coffee and Fresh Mint Vietnamese Cafe recently shut their doors, but we’re betting they won’t be empty for long. Paia Bay Coffee is apparently reopening in another location, but no word yet on the specifics.
Art Galleries
What’s New: Brothers John and Dan Cesere recently opened up their own gallery, Cesere Brothers, to showcase their amazing underwater photography, including shots of humpback whales from in the water. Since photographers must obtain a special permit to get in the water and photograph whales in the state of Hawaii, their photography is truly unique and remarkable. Definitely a must see if you’re fascinated by the ocean! Also new to Paia, owners of Makai Glass Creations recently opened Makai Gallery, a beautiful space with amazing glass blowing creations, jewelry and other items from guest artists.
What’s Out: The former Paia Contemporary Gallery was replaced by the Cesere Brothers and the Turnbull Gallery closed its doors.
Stores/Shops
What’s New: Kuau Store, located 1 mile past Paia Town, recently opened their doors, offering a great assortment of local food and beverage goods as well as ready-made picnic lunches, plate lunches and more. Stop here for kombucha on tap, fresh poke and organic local foods. Delish! Cariloha Bamboo, who makes an assortment of bamboo clothing, accessories and apparel, is also currently looking for retail space in Paia Town.
What’s Out: Paia Pharmacy and Eve Black Jewelry are now closed. Eve Black says she is on hiatus until she returns to Maui and finds a new location.
Fitness
What’s New: Infusion Yoga, which offers the only Barre classes on Maui, opened its doors a few months ago in the space behind Dazoo. Having taken quite a few classes here, it’s clear that this place is doing something right. Owner Trish Bianco and her team of talented teachers offer a great variety of classes throughout the day and recently moved two doors down to a slightly larger space. Check it out if you’re looking to up your fitness regimen.
What’s Out: Paia Yoga recently closed its doors.
